Le Comme Chez Soi

February 7, 2010 Montreal

Café Comme Chez Soi is a pretty little café located on Fairmount in Mile-End. I used to live less than ten minutes away from it for the past 3 years and my friend couldn’t believe I never went. It was finally time to try it out this week-end and it was quite the pleasant surprise! The café looks completely different from outside, but once you get in, you realize how pretty and cozy the place is.

The specialty of Café Comme Chez Soi seems to be their burgers and Benedictines but once I saw that the chef was French, I couldn’t resist and I went for the salty crepes instead.

I chose the ham, cheese and asparagus crepe and it came with a green salad, breakfast potatoes and fruits. I think the biggest surprise in my plate was the salad that looked like nothing but ended up tasting amazing with their homemade vinaigrette. I think I’d go back just to have a big bowl of salad anytime!

The asparagus may have been a bit too overcooked as I was expecting a crunchy bite and the sauce was a bit too generous but in the end, I really liked everything in my dish. The texture of the crepe was thin and tasty!

Conclusion: Café Comme Chez Soi is another neighborhood gem that needs to be visited. The coffee is delicious, the place is gorgeous (expect maybe for the counter where the cooking is done, which is full of ingredients and packages that do not really mean to be looked at) and the staff is very friendly.

i went to this resto just after the review came out and then I have just recently gone back. The decor is even prettier now it has been tidied up around the cooking counter and little homey touches have been added everywhere. I really think you should go and check it out again. Thank you for the advice I think it will be one of my favorites for a while.

    Hi Dawn,

Thank you for your response! I’m glad you enjoyed it as much as I did and I will indeed to have to go to see the changes.

I just found this place on St. Laurent, just south of St. Viateur called Le Comme Chez Soi. I think it the same place as before same decor etc? Hand’s down the BEST BURGER I have ever eaten! Supposedly they are getting an alchol permit too in the next weeks.

    Hi Ryan!

You’re right! After a little research, I found out that it moved on St-Laurent and it is much bigger. Sounds like I need to go visit the “new” place this week-end :)

Did you have the bison burger?

    Hi Sofia!
I’ve been back a few times now–definite favourite spot in city. Last time I had the bison burger alsace I think. With sour croute. Amazing but I still am partial to the orignial comme chez soi burger :-)
Also tried the lasagna!! And what is in the chef’s salad dressing? It is SOO good!!
    bon appetit :D

    Hi Sofia,
Another update–CCS is now open evenings, with an alcohol permit–they have beer on tap, and wine, etc–and evening table d’hotes, like insanely dicious ribs! They accept credit cards to now. I went twice last week

Just had brunch there. Terrible service. Decor tacky. Messed up my order. Waited more than 30 minutes for eggs. Just awful. Was overcharged, mistake on bill. Will never go back.

Went last Saturday as usual pretty busy and had to wait 30 minutes but it was worth it. Filled up on coffee and convo in the meantime. Still prefer it to denny’s ;-)
