Exciting Sugar!

May 5, 2011 At Home Comments

Here are the latest products I found during my road trip on the West Coast. I’m not a fan of sugar but I couldn’t resist buying these items!

I was quite impressed by the pumpkin flavored Pocky box! I love anything made with pumpkin and there was nothing fake about the flavor. I have never seen them in our Chinatown in Montreal. Maybe one of you did?

I loved the Tabasco flavor in the pieces! I was expecting a very sweet chocolate but to my pleasure, it was almost dark and went very well with the spicy addition.

WineSkin

April 26, 2011 At Home Comments

I went for my first wine tour in Sonoma last week. I was so excited but sad at the same time knowing I would not be able to bring back some exciting wine home.

I always travel with my bright and yellow backpack and it’s not the best mean to transport fragile products.

While I was visiting the Ravenswood winery though, I found the WineSkin for sale in a basket. For only $2 a piece, it’s the perfect solution for bringing back bottles without being afraid of ruining whatever else is in your luggage and keeping everything secure.

I tried it on my way back to Montreal with two 750ml bottles tucked in between my clothes in my bag and everything went smoothly.

This is a single-time use product but since it does not seem to be available in Canada for now, I simply cut the seal area to remove my bottles and plan to use it upside down in the future.

Check out the site and where you can get your hands on it!

Molecular Cuisine

March 24, 2011 At Home Comments

Believe it or not, spring is coming and that means that our patio furniture will be out in a few weeks to host fun BBQ parties. We love eating it but it can get a little repetitive for two seasons long. Why not surprise your guests with some extra components?

CUISINE R-ÉVOLUTION released an awesome molecular cuisine kit for a while now and you can order it on their website or probably find it in your favorite kitchen store that features gadgets.

I think it’s the must-have for this summer to add a little smoke to your gazpacho or turn your salad dressing into a cube that will undo itself under the fork of your guests!

Have a great spring!

Zico – Pure Coconut Water

January 17, 2011 At Home Comments

I rarely buy drinks from the store as they usually contain too much sugar. Especially in the past years with the green trend, a lot of fake healthy drinks have been added on the market. Vitamin Water is a very good example as it contains 32 grams of sugar. You might as well have a coke! I would rather have a smoothie made of fresh ingredients and water.

This is why I want to introduce Zico, a pure coconut water. It’s the first drink product I have bought in a long time. It was standing next to the water bottles in the supermarket and I got curious.

I was introduced to coconut water back when I was eating a raw diet and I learned a lot about its benefits, along with its great taste.

I tried the Piña Tropicale flavor and fell in love with the product. I don’t suggest drinking it all the time but as a treat when you get tired of water and want a drink that reminds you of the south, Zico is the perfect option to keep at home!

Pied de Cochon’s Tourtière

December 17, 2010 At Home Comments

If you’ve missed Pied de Cochon’ sugar shack last year like I did, you probably heard about the delicious meat pie they served. Since I couldn’t wait until next year to sample it, I made a holiday order on their website.

I loved the pizza box they used to package their tourtière!

As promised, it was more than yummy! Pied de Cochon’s tourtière is made of pork, grounded and in chunks. The flavors were rich and went perfectly with their maple syrup ketchup. The star though was the pastry! I don’t even want to know how much butter went into it to make it perfectly flaky.

If you visit their website, they will mention that orders must be made before December 17th to be picked up before December 30th but I have a feeling you can just swing by and get the products you want. So give it a try if you’re in the neighborhood!

Pot Drainer

November 30, 2010 At Home Comments

I must have mentioned before that I have recently moved in my new condo. Leaving the apartment world meant that I had to get rid of as much things as possible so I could make sure that all the items I brought were really necessary. The kitchen was obviously the hardest as I do love to buy a new gadget or tool each time I visit a cooking store.

While packing, I realized I had two cheap plastic drainers that I used for pasta or vegetables so I decided to let them go and get something else once I move in, of better quality too!

Finally, after looking at a few options, I decided to go with the Trudeau Pot Drainer. With its array of bright colors and smart design, it’s definitely a space saver! Also, it’s dishwasher safe.

Zarafina – Hot Tea Maker

August 17, 2010 At Home Comments

Zarafina

I received my Zarafina this past winter as a gift. Since then, I have been using it religiously and drinking a simple cup of tea is now an event at home! My guests enjoy it as much as I do and with its few but useful settings, the tea has never been so good.

The Zarafina steeps both loose and bagged tea and makes enough tea for four cups. Sadly, the machine is quite hard to find so your best bet is Amazon. For more information, you can visit their website.

Extra points for their clever packaging!

How about a new category for my readers that’s not about restaurants? I’ve been so caught up in doing restaurant reviews and articles about my trips around the world so far that I never thought of sharing what I buy for my place. And trust me, I love getting stuff to make my kitchen more exciting!

From now on, I will share my favorite products, appliances or recipes from Montreal or online. I hope you enjoy this section as much as I do!
